Tree Avalanche!
|
|
This scar on the mountain is a new tree avalanche. As mentioned earlier,
these trees adapted to grow on mountain faces, their roots entwining and
using the mossy growth as soil. When trees get too heavy to be supported,
they begin to fall and cause a chain reaction with the other trees entwined.
This is a tree avalanche. The next photo will show you an older tree
avalanche where the lichen / moss / fern cycle has begun and eventually trees
will grow there again.
